Occupational First Aid is a three day course for up to 10 participants. The course is set out by the Health and Safety Authority in association with the Occupational First Aid Assessment Agent, and is recognised by FETAC at level 5. Occupational First Aid is the required standard for first aid in the workplace and is taught to the latest guidelines.
This is a very interactive course, which draws on the candidates own experience where possible, ensuring the training they receive is practical, realistic and relevant. The emphasis in this course is on learning the essential skills and giving candidates the confidence to use them in a real situation.
Each course includes a First Aid Manual for all participants on the course.

:: Course Objective

:: Course Content
The course consists of eight lessons and candidates can expect to learn about:
• Legislation, First Aid in the workplace
• Patient Assessment
• Respiratory Emergencies
• Cardiac First Response and Defibrillator use
• Wounds and Bleeding
• Head Injuries, Unconsciousness
• Musculoskeletal Injuries
• Burns and Scalds, Chemicals, Electric Shock
:: Planned Outcome
At the end of the three days training participants undergo an examination involving a written exam and a practical assessment. The practical assessment will be carried out by an outside assessor on an individual basis during which each candidate will be tested for their knowledge of the course topics and the correct application of the practical skills learned on the course such as CPR, Defibrillator use etc.
:: Certification Details
On successful completion of the Course each participant will receive a FETAC Level 5 certificate of qualification as an occupational first aider which also certifies them in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. Certificates are valid for two years and are recognised by the relevant authorities, including the Health and Safety Authority.
